Heritage Fan: an ancestor fan chart poster

A half circle full of ancestors: Heritage Fan arranges your forebears in rings around a medallion, shaded from dark to light, and from across the room it reads like a graphic print.

The fan chart is one of genealogy’s oldest layouts, and it has one big advantage: every generation gets exactly one ring and every person exactly one segment. At a glance you see how far your research reaches in each line and where segments are still empty.

What the poster shows

At the bottom centre the root person sits in a medallion with just their name and year of birth. The first ring holds the parents, the second the grandparents, and so on outwards, up to 7 generations on A1 and 5 on A4, counting the root person. The father’s side is on the left, the mother’s on the right, and names follow the curve of the segments.

Below the medallion you find the family name, the number of generations and ancestors, and the span of years. Long names are shortened by fixed rules, surnames never, and no text ever runs over the edge of its segment.

Heritage Fan shows ancestors only. For descendants or siblings, Heritage Oak and Modern Clean are the better fit.

Ombré palettes

Each palette runs from a dark tone at the centre to a light one at the edge, so the generations read without extra lines. You can choose Navy & Gold, Sage & Cream, Mauve Ombré, and Earth & Amber. The half circle uses almost the full width of the landscape sheet, and the lettering stays inside its segment on every ring.

Who it is for

Genealogists like the fan because it shows the state of the research honestly: where an ancestor is missing, the segment stays light and empty. As a gift it looks calm and graphic, for a parent’s birthday, a retirement, or someone who has just started tracing their family. On the wall it suits a study, a stairwell or a simply furnished room.

How many generations fit on Heritage Fan?

Up to 7 generations on A1 and 5 on A4, counting the root person.

Can the fan show descendants?

No, Heritage Fan shows ancestors only. For descendants, use Heritage Oak in descendant mode or Modern Clean.

Which colours are available?

The ombré palettes Navy & Gold, Sage & Cream, Mauve Ombré, and Earth & Amber. You switch between them in the design step and see the result in the preview straight away.
